Michael Douse, Publishing Director at Larian, shared his initial impressions of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign. He stated that the game's opening 20 minutes delivered a greater impact than expected in terms of narrative, cinematic presentation, and graphical effects, while also showcasing several technical capabilities.
Douse's studio, Larian, developed Baldur's Gate 3, which drew attention for its writing, character development, and storytelling. As a result, his positive remarks on this title's narrative and presentation have sparked discussion. However, these comments only cover a small segment of the campaign's opening and do not constitute a review of the full campaign or all modes, nor do they represent an endorsement of the game's quality by Larian Studios.
Compared to last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has received more positive feedback so far. The campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 faced considerable criticism.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is also the first entry in the series to drop support for PS4 and Xbox One, targeting current-generation hardware only. This positioning may be one of the reasons its technical performance has received praise.
