Players Suggest Keeping PvE Mode in ARC Raiders but Reducing Loot Rewards

ARC Raiders recently concluded a test of its PvE mode, during which players could explore the Rust Belt, fight machines, and gather resources without constantly worrying about ambushes from other raiders. After the test ended, the PvE toggle was removed. A ComicBook reviewer supports Embark's consideration of bringing this mode back permanently but argues that its rewards should be lower than those of the original PvPvE gameplay.

The author believes that the PvE mode suits those who wish to observe the game world at their own pace without the pressure of player-versus-player combat, and may also help the game reach a wider audience. However, the core of ARC Raiders is not just about shooting robots and collecting supplies; the possibility of encountering other players is also a key factor in keeping surface expeditions unpredictable.

If player threats are removed, the difficulty and sense of achievement associated with obtaining the same batch of loot will also change. The author worries that once PvE can offer rewards comparable to PvPvE gameplay with lower risk, players will lack the incentive to take on the risks of ambushes and losing supplies, potentially weakening the risk-reward structure of extraction shooter gameplay.

The author does not argue for making PvE rewards worthless, but rather suggests clearly distinguishing between the two experiences. For example, capping PvE loot at green rarity would allow players to still obtain useful resources while reserving the rarest and most valuable gear for higher-risk expeditions. The specific balancing approach remains up to Embark; this green-quality cap is merely a suggestion from the reviewer, not a permanent mode plan announced by the development team.
