Daedalic Entertainment has announced that the Barotrauma "Home Base" DLC will be released on December 2 (local time), with a free companion update for the base game launching first on November 26. The expansion has been in development for about two years, with its core gameplay focused on giving players their own outpost in the deep sea.
Players can control specific locations or acquire bases by completing missions. Outposts provide resources and new technologies, but may come under attack, requiring players to establish defenses. Installing the DLC will also introduce a new faction called the "Heirs" to the game world.
The free update on November 26 will introduce a new plugin system to the base game to simplify mod creation, while also adding content such as limb severance and prosthetics, advanced gardening, and decorations to make the game world more vibrant. The update will also bring a new transport submarine and optimize a long-standing bug.
Barotrauma supports cooperative multiplayer, where players pilot submarines through the dim depths, taking on missions while facing unknown threats. This paid DLC is released separately from the free update, so players who don't purchase the expansion will still receive the modding tools and base system changes launching on November 26.
