NEKCOM Entertainment offered a demo of Showa American Story at G-Fusion Game Fest 2026 from October 24 to 25. This version featured the same content showcased at gamescom 2026, with four scenarios: story and combat, rest and growth, level exploration, and boss battles. This demo focused on the first two.
The game is set in a fictional Showa Year 66. After Japan purchases most of the United States, the two cultures merge into "Showa America." A subsequent "Great Calamity" destroys civilization and turns most people into zombies. Chigusa Chocho, resurrected from the dead, embarks on a journey across America to find her younger sister, Aya.
Combat supports combinations of light and heavy attacks, charged attacks, jump attacks, precise dodges, and shooting, with resource management revolving around rage, stamina, and enemy guard-break gauges. The demo allows players to use weapons such as knuckles, knives, the Stars and Stripes flag, and drills. Upon returning to camp, players can consume AP earned through exploration to eat, train, or read manga, thereby enhancing their abilities.
Players particularly praised the game's dense and absurd humor, which includes a Statue of Liberty wearing a kimono, lanterns inscribed with "Golden Gate," gangs dressed in Showa-era gymnastics uniforms, and battle themes adapted from electronics store jingles. Showa American Story is slated for release on PC, PS5, and PS4 within 2026, following delays, and will feature full Japanese voice acting.
