"Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves" for Nintendo Switch 2 was released on October 22. The development team stated that this version features the same character roster as existing platforms, primarily targeting 60 FPS performance, supporting amiibo, and striving to make the controls feel similar to other versions.
HexaDrive, responsible for the port, stated that the game's original engine version did not support Nintendo Switch 2, so the porting process first required an engine upgrade. As other platform versions continue to receive updates, the porting team must constantly catch up on code and content differences, while coordinating stable frame rates, maintaining visual quality, and avoiding additional latency in cross-platform matches.
The development team also discussed adjustments to Mai Shiranui's classic ninja outfit. Since the character's original design uses high heels, changing costumes alters foot height and stride length, requiring modifications to hundreds of animations and footstep sounds, though movement distance and character performance must remain unchanged.
Regarding crossover characters, the team mentioned that introducing Manjiro Sano and Ken Ryuguji from "Tokyo Revengers" and Reina from "Tekken 8" aims partly to reach new audiences. During production, the team strives to preserve these characters' original appearances and fighting styles from their source materials.
The current monthly update cadence, adding one character at a time, places simultaneous pressure on programming, art, audio, translation, and multi-platform maintenance. The team describes this state as being chased by flames from behind, but hopes to continue when conditions allow. Balance adjustments must also align with the annual esports schedule to avoid sudden changes to character performance before major tournaments.
