Massive Announces The Division Series Reaches 50 Million Players; The Division 3 Still in Development

Massive Entertainment has announced that the cumulative player count across all titles in The Division series has reached 50 million. The Division 3 is currently in development, but specific gameplay details and a potential release date have not yet been revealed.

This milestone applies to the entire The Division series, rather than representing single-game sales or current active players for The Division 2. The first title in the series was launched in 2016, set in New York during a smallpox outbreak triggered by Black Friday, and later received three major expansion packs.

The Division 2 was released in 2019, shifting the main setting to Washington, D.C., where players must prevent the complete collapse of the federal government. The game continued to receive downloadable content and updates after its launch. Massive announced in 2023 that it would lead the development of The Division 3, a project that is currently still underway.

According to SteamDB data, the first game in the series achieved a historical peak concurrent player count of over 114,000 on Steam. The Division 2 did not launch on Steam at release, with its PC player base primarily served through the Ubisoft Store, making direct comparisons of the two games' Steam data inappropriate.
