Mat Piscatella, Circana's Head of Games, believes that publishers do not need to collectively avoid the GTA VI release window. Although the title will be a massive game and a significant cultural event, he stated that the risks of launching other new titles concurrently have been greatly exaggerated by outsiders.
Citing the approximately 49 million PS5 or Xbox Series console users in the United States, Piscatella pointed out that a significant portion of them are not interested in GTA VI and will still choose other products such as Fortnite and Roblox. He emphasized that player interests vary, and a single blockbuster title will not automatically capture all users from other types of games.
As November 19 approaches, many publishers are closely monitoring this release window. Notable titles drawing attention during this period include The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, scheduled for launch on November 5, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III was already released in late October.
Activision Chief Marketing Officer Tyler Bahl previously suggested another possibility: major game events might encourage players to dust off their Xbox or PlayStation consoles, which could in turn benefit other games. This perspective represents an industry insider's assessment of market competition, rather than a sales forecast or a description of competitive outcomes that have already occurred.
