On October 26, Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that the Call of Duty franchise has surpassed $40 billion in cumulative revenue. She thanked the Activision team and players but did not disclose sales figures for the newly released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
Since the release of its first title in 2003, Call of Duty has seen new entries nearly every year. The announced figure includes Call of Duty: Warzone and mobile spin-offs, representing the total revenue generated by the entire franchise over its long history, rather than the performance of any single title.
Based on the $40 billion total, the franchise averages approximately $4.76 million in daily revenue. However, this figure represents revenue rather than profit, and Activision has not disclosed the development and marketing budgets for its past titles.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III was officially released on October 23. It achieved a 90% positive rating on Steam during its early access campaign period and quickly climbed the best-seller charts, but Sharma did not confirm whether the title pushed the franchise past the $40 billion milestone.
Activision has described Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III as the final entry in the current Modern Warfare sub-series, with plans to launch a new sub-series afterward. Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion in 2023, but only a portion of the franchise's cumulative revenue was generated during Microsoft's ownership.
