James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, refers to the interconnected main storyline of the DC Universe as the "Superman Saga." He also emphasized that each work should stand on its own, even if viewers haven't seen other projects, regardless of whether it belongs to the overall story.
In response to audience discussions about the connectivity of the DC Universe on Threads, Gunn stated that the current planning continues the approach proposed in 2023. Some stories will be relatively standalone, similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy film series, with Clayface falling into this category; other projects will enter a larger narrative structure.
The first chapter of the DC Universe was initially themed "Gods and Monsters," but this name has appeared less frequently since. With the release of Superman and the announcement of projects like Supergirl and Superman: Man of Tomorrow, the term "Superman Saga" has begun to appear more often. The People vs. Gorilla Grodd and Green Lantern are also considered projects related to Superman.
Gunn expressed his excitement for audiences to see these elements begin to converge in Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The film is scheduled for July 9, 2027, continuing this storyline. What has been confirmed so far is the narrative title "Superman Saga," as well as the structure featuring both standalone and interconnected projects; whether it will fully replace "Gods and Monsters" remains undecided.
