New Game+ allows players to restart Edward Kenway's campaign while retaining most unlocked content, including weapons, outfits, Jackdaw upgrades and pets, and the Kenway Fleet. Mission items, recruited officers, and captured forts will be reset.

Each new playthrough increases the difficulty, with elite soldiers appearing more frequently and highest-level ships patrolling the seas. Difficulty can scale up to New Game+++++. Nightmare Mode increases enemy damage by 1.8x, shortens the parry window, and removes protections against one-hit kills.

Stealth difficulty is also increased in Nightmare Mode; enemies detect players faster and are more likely to hear movements quicker than walking. Players can earn Escudos by completing challenges and opening chests, which can be exchanged for exclusive outfits and items for this mode.

The patch also restores the Hidden Blade, unarmed, single-sword, and gunblade execution animations from the original 2013 release, and adds new community chests that do not provide clues.
