Independent studio Cygnus Cross has announced that the Steam Early Access launch of Ember Town, originally scheduled for October 27, 2026 (PT), has been delayed to January 7, 2027. The existing free demo will remain available. This delay is primarily intended to improve bow mechanics and other ranged combat issues.
The development team received a large volume of player feedback during the Steam Next Fest. Upon planning improvements, they realized the scope of work exceeded expectations. Even focusing solely on the most heavily criticized bow mechanics and other ranged combat issues would prevent them from meeting the original release date. Therefore, they decided to incorporate these necessary adjustments into the initial Early Access launch.
Ember Town is a pixel-art action RPG that combines Diablo-style loot grinding, town management, and dungeon crawling. Players awaken in an underground prison made of magic, driving the town's revival through exploration, combat, and loot collection. They can also customize their builds using cross-class skills, weapon combos, and various materials.
The development team believes that combat feel and feedback are core to the action-looter experience, and they aim for the game to reach a relatively stable state at the start of Early Access. According to the current schedule, improving the controls and feedback for ranged builds will be a key focus before the official Early Access launch.
