Creator chris-efpunkt has released the Destruction mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, adding an environmental destruction system similar to that of Red Faction to this 2004 title. Explosions now leave craters in the original terrain and alter collision effects, allowing players to enter and utilize the breaches created by blasts.
After installing the mod, grenades, rockets, explosive packages, and vehicle explosions no longer produce just brief visual effects. Explosions can pierce through thinner roofs, walls, and bridge decks; multiple craters can connect to gradually form tunnels, and trees and streetlights may also be knocked over by the blast force.
The demo footage released by TheCanadianGTR further showcases the continuous explosion effects: players can destroy entire buildings and move through the resulting rubble. This mechanic not only changes the visual presentation but also affects traversal routes and scene interactions.
Currently, the Destruction mod's effects are limited to the outdoor world, with indoor scenes remaining intact. The mod's stability, installation requirements, and specific compatibility across different areas should be verified further via the project page.
