Bulkhead reviewed the issues following the launch of War Dogs' second season and confirmed that the current monthly seasonal rhythm is unsustainable. The studio now plans to shift to major refreshes every three months, with smaller updates released in between.
The team originally hoped to accelerate progression to make it easier for casual players to keep up, but they underestimated how familiar players were with the system, causing the seasonal economy reset to quickly lose its significance. The early announcement of Season 3 plans also led players to question whether it was still worth investing in the current season.
Executive Producer Joe Brammer stated that after the game's success, the team became overly concerned about a lack of content. Coupled with the experience of Battalion 1944 failing to maintain its player base, the developers rushed to add more content, which ultimately affected overall quality, leaving fundamental issues like experience points insufficiently polished.
The development team also aims to change the vertical progression of Season 1, which concentrated the best equipment at the end of the skill tree. However, they have not yet found a complete solution to prevent powerful vehicles from reappearing too quickly, and the fuel mechanism is still under discussion. Season 3 is tentatively targeted for a November 12 release, at which point the economy will be reset again, and restricted or "vanilla" servers that remove powerful weapons and vehicles will be added to recreate the early-to-mid game experience. Recent Steam reviews have dropped to "Mixed," affecting platform visibility and new sales, prompting the team to respond quickly.
