Former Ghost Rider Comic Writer Hopes MCU Reboot Will Take an R-Rated Body Horror Route

Benjamin Percy, who worked on the Ghost Rider comics from 2022 to 2023, recently discussed his expectations for the MCU reboot. He hopes the new film will take an R-rated horror approach, replacing the typical capes-and-tights superhero treatment with body horror and hellish imagery.

Percy's envisioned scenes include Johnny Blaze pulling fiery chains from his mouth, his skin gradually melting, and being surrounded by a halo of flames. He believes we are currently in a golden age for horror, and that Marvel Studios should carve out a more distinct horror niche within the MCU.

However, these ideas are merely creative proposals from Percy in his capacity as a former comic book writer and horror enthusiast, not an official confirmation from Marvel Studios regarding the film's rating, visual style, or narrative direction.

The 2007 Ghost Rider film and its sequel were both rated PG-13, contrasting with Percy's vision for a darker direction. The interview also listed Shawn Levy as the director of the rebooted film, Ryan Gosling as the lead actor, and gave a release date of July 28, 2028.
