Infinity Ward released a small update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on October 28, featuring the first major weapon balancing pass along with fixes for multiple issues in Multiplayer and DMZ. This update requires a download but does not change the version number; the file size on PS5 is approximately 119MB.
This tuning aims to make damage more consistent across different hit locations and improve the overall performance of submachine guns. The damage multiplier for SMGs with both arms and both hands has been increased from 0.95 to 1.0, aim-down-sights time has been reduced from 300ms to 280ms, and certain movement speeds, ranges, and headshot multipliers have also been improved. Adjustments were also made to the Oden, Hyeon Burst, Patriot XMR, X-58 Nyx, as well as some light machine gun attachments and attributes.
In terms of gameplay, the game adds a new 6v6 gunfight mode called Kill Block. Based on player feedback, Free-for-All has had its score limit restored to 30 points, and team sizes are limited to two players. The development team has also temporarily reduced dive speed by 23% to suppress an acceleration exploit involving diving immediately after a sprint jump; a long-term solution is still in development.
The patch also addresses various issues with camouflage unlock counts and display, and fixes problems such as Quick Fix continuing to heal after the character takes damage, incorrect tracking of melee challenges, and riot shield boundary exploits.
The Possum trait in DMZ has also been restricted: it cannot activate while the killer's squad is still nearby; if conditions are not met, players must wait four minutes. Additionally, the update fixes bugs such as black screens, lost equipment, unissued Tier 3 armor rewards, and inability to upgrade Secure Room mission cards.
