Gears of War: E-Day Surpasses 400,000 Copies Sold on Xbox and Steam

Recent reports indicate that Gears of War: E-Day has surpassed 400,000 cumulative sales across Xbox and Steam. Earlier figures cited around 230,000 copies; if both sets of data are accurate, sales continue to grow, though neither has been officially confirmed.

There were also rumors that Gears of War: E-Day had a development budget of $500 million, excluding marketing costs. If this budget is accurate, the currently disclosed sales figures stand in stark contrast to the scale of investment. However, existing reports do not provide information on revenue, Game Pass subscriber numbers, cost recovery, or internal Xbox targets, so it remains unclear whether the project has met Microsoft's expectations.

Related discussions have framed Gears of War: E-Day as a case study in Xbox's renewed attempt at console exclusivity, after the development team reportedly shelved the PS5 version shortly before a June showcase event—a platform strategy that also lacks official confirmation.

For comparison, Forza Horizon 5 has already launched on PlayStation, with Forza Horizon 6 and Fable also planned for PS5, while Clockwork Revolution is described as the next exclusive title.
