Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 3 in Development with New Showrunner and New Titans

Apple TV's Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has officially entered development for its third season. The new season will feature a changed creative team, steer the story in a "new direction," and introduce new Titans from Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse.

Original showrunner and executive producer Chris Black, along with the original writing team, will be replaced by a new crew. It remains unclear whether other existing producers, such as Matt Fraction, will continue their involvement, and the specific narrative direction under the new creative leadership has not been revealed.

The series previously focused on members of Monarch across different eras and the Randa family, providing historical context for the MonsterVerse films. Its content covered Godzilla, Kong, Skull Island, the Hollow Earth, and "Axis Mundi," which connects the surface to the Hollow Earth. The Season 2 finale also set up events related to Godzilla vs. Kong, where Apex Cybernetics obtained the algorithms and data needed to build Mechagodzilla. Whether Season 3 will continue this approach of filling in the prequel history for the films remains uncertain.

The original style of storytelling will continue through the spin-off miniseries Birdwatcher. The series stars Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell, and follows a mission he undertakes after leaving "Axis Mundi." Both Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 3 and Birdwatcher are currently in development, with no premiere dates announced yet.
