Big Adventures in a Small Neighborhood: Pixel-Art Healing Game "Danchi Hiyori" Released Today

The pixel-art narrative game "Danchi Hibi," published by indie publisher Analgesic Productions, has officially launched on Steam with an introductory price of 43.2 yuan.

The game's demo previously achieved an impressive 95% positive rating (Very Positive). The full version's story takes place in a historic "danchi," or residential complex. You play as a young girl named Hoshino, who strives to revive the danchi's summer festival for her grandmother, who suffers from dementia, by inviting numerous eccentric neighbors to join the celebration. Even if rejected, you can explore the danchi and the internet to find ways to persuade them to participate.

Big Adventure in a Small Residential Complex

As a narrative-driven game, "Danchi Hibi" explores many issues present in modern society beneath its warm and cute art style. In addition to the key element of Hoshino's grandmother, who suffers from dementia, players must interact with various neighbors living in the danchi while trying to revive the summer festival. These include elderly people living alone for long periods in an aging society with declining birthrates, as well as shut-ins who have become increasingly isolated due to the widespread use of the internet.

Where Are the Quirky Neighbors?

Of course, the game doesn't take a heavy-handed approach to social issues. While all the characters have their own social backgrounds, through the eyes of a 12-year-old girl, they appear as interesting and unique quirky neighbors. There are 51 residents in total, ranging in age from 12 to 87, each with distinct personalities. As you invite them to revive the summer festival, you can build strange connections with your neighbors and record them in your log, much like collecting "Pokémon."

Childlike Mini-Games

As you win over these quirky neighbors and complete various in-game challenges, the protagonist will trigger a series of mini-games. These creative challenges are inspired by games the author invented as a child while playing with friends in their residential complex. Through them, you can experience the lessons Hoshino's grandmother taught her when she was still healthy: "Feel with your five senses." The fresh scent of trees, puddles formed after rain... Discover the hidden mini-games within the everyday life of the danchi, and immerse yourself in play just like you did as a child.

"Danchi Hibi" is now available on Steam for 43.2 yuan. Interested players can simply search for "Danchi Hibi" on Steam to find it.
