DeadPixel Studio has released the online co-op action roguelike "Calamity from the Sky: Survivors," now available on Steam with support for solo play and online teams of up to four players. Players can select characters and maps in the lobby before entering collapsing worlds inspired by various apocalyptic myths through portals.
At launch, the game features 14 playable characters and four apocalypse-themed maps, each consisting of four progressively difficult stages. Some worlds draw inspiration from Chinese and Christian eschatological imagery, each offering unique environments, creatures, and progression mechanics.
Combat blends side-scrolling action, platforming, and vertical movement. In addition to relentless enemy hordes, dynamic events such as rising lava, meteor showers, fire tornadoes, and darkness alter the battlefield, forcing teams to constantly adjust their positioning and movement routes.
Players can combine weapons, runes, items, and upgrades; evolved weapons transform into abilities with different power levels and mechanics. Characters and items are unlocked through missions, and players can voluntarily choose additional challenges such as facing stronger enemies or attempting no-hit runs. Elite enemies have a chance to drop chests containing three random items, forcing the team to make on-the-fly decisions regarding build composition, item distribution, and disaster response.
