"The Tailor" has maintained growth since its launch on Steam. Third-party analytics firm Video Game Insights estimates that the game has sold over 482,000 copies since its release on September 21. Its daily peak concurrent player count did not decline after launch; instead, it rose from under 8,000 on day one to over 35,000 by day seven, and surpassed 43,000 by day fourteen.
Developer and publisher Free Lives stated that the team did not conduct paid marketing in Western markets, only paying content creators in China, yet most players come from North America and Europe. Sabrina Becker believes that players creating and sharing outfits has formed a positive feedback loop driving the game's continued spread.
Among nearly 200 testers, the team observed a median playtime of 30 hours, with some players exceeding 400 hours. Players have also designed their own themed challenges and shared dress files via Discord, building upon the creations of previous players.
Approximately 85% of the team's social media followers are women. Becker believes the issue is not that women naturally dislike games, but rather that the industry has long lacked titles that cater to their interests and respect them as players. The "The Tailor" project originated from the team's desire to authentically represent the fashion design process while turning its tedious aspects into enjoyable gameplay.
Following the Steam release, mobile and Switch ports of "The Tailor" are in development, along with free updates and an online competitive mode, though no specific release dates have been announced yet.
