Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Season 1 Removes Mandatory VRR Requirement for 120Hz Mode

The development team for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III adjusted the activation requirements for the 120Hz Performance Mode on consoles in the Season 1 update. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players can now enable "Performance Mode (120Hz)" as long as they connect to a 120Hz-capable display, even if VRR is unavailable or disabled.

Before the game's release, the development team announced that console players must use displays supporting Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to run at 120Hz in Performance Mode. As this restriction was announced close to launch, players without VRR-capable displays expressed dissatisfaction.

The Season 1 patch removed this strict requirement, allowing console players with standard 120Hz TVs or monitors to try out the high refresh rate mode. However, a 120Hz display device remains a basic prerequisite for enabling this mode.

The development team stated that, for the best experience, players are still recommended to use VRR. This adjustment merely changes VRR from a mandatory requirement to a recommended configuration; it does not guarantee identical frame rate stability across different display environments.
