The BioWare documentary "Massive Effect: The Story of BioWare" is scheduled for release in 2027. The film will review the studio's journey from its founding in 1995 to its closure, and will cover some events following the shutdown.
Led by Shane Fennessey and Adam Scorgie, the film was produced for Canada's Super Channel. Filming began two years before the announcement, with the project initially likely intended as a retrospective of the studio's history and achievements, later documenting BioWare's final stages.
The documentary confirms that several BioWare-affiliated individuals will appear, including founders Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk, and Augustine Yip, as well as long-time developers Mark Darrah, David Gaider, Drew Karpyshyn, Aaryn Flynn, Mac Walters, Trent Oster, James Ohlen, and Caroline Livingstone.
Jennifer Hale, Casey Hudson, and Geoff Keighley are also on the list of appearances. The two co-founders stated that BioWare's significance lies not only in its brand or office location, but also in the stories created by the development team and the players who have long supported these worlds. The film will not focus solely on the studio's closure, but will also present BioWare's broad influence on role-playing games.
