Tomb Raider: Relics of Atlantis will serve as the first step in the series' "next major phase," with a main campaign lasting approximately 14 to 16 hours. The game reimagines Lara's initial adventure from 1996, aiming to bridge the experience between the classic series and the "Survivor" trilogy.
Jeff Adams, Experience Director at Crystal Dynamics, stated that the development team will retain iconic elements such as hazardous environments, puzzles, encounters with apex predators, and grand set pieces, while offering modern players more choices and customization options. This title is not merely a visual remake of older games, but a reinterpretation of key chapters in Lara's history for all players.
The game introduces stat enhancements along with crafting systems for buffs and healing items. Adams cited the illogical presence of medical kits in ancient tombs as an example, stating that obtaining healing items through crafting better fits the game world's logic.
Veteran players can re-explore classic environments on modern consoles and PC, using Lara's past outfits; players who joined the series with the 2013 reboot will enjoy familiar difficulty adjustments and a more relatable portrayal of Lara. Tomb Raider: Relics of Atlantis is scheduled to launch on February 12 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
