Lionsgate is developing an animated feature film based on John Wick, with Keanu Reeves confirmed to return as the voice of John Wick. The film is currently in pre-production and serves as an official prequel to the main live-action John Wick film series.
Set before the events of the live-action films, the story will depict the "impossible task" previously only mentioned in dialogue within the series. John must eliminate all his rivals in a single night to sever his contract with the High Table and earn the chance to live a peaceful life with his wife, Helen.
The film is directed by Shannon Tindle, who worked on Ultraman: Rising and Kubo and the Two Strings, with the final script written by Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo. Producers include Chad Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Keanu Reeves, and Point Grey.
Lionsgate continues to expand the John Wick franchise. Together with the spin-off Ballerina starring Ana de Armas, the series has surpassed $1 billion in cumulative box office revenue. Other planned projects include a standalone film for Cain starring Donnie Yen, and the fifth installment of the main series directed by Chad Stahelski. Currently, no release date, full voice cast, or completion timeline has been announced for this animated prequel.
