Independent development studio obleak games released the PC game "Bloom Time" on Steam on November 5. The title combines electronic pet-style nurturing with Katamari Damacy-style consumption-based growth, requiring players to feed a bottomless appetite creature and keep it alive.
The creature can initially only consume small objects nearby. As it eats, it gradually grows and changes shape, expanding its targets to include neighborhoods, cities, entire continents, and even larger entities. As it progresses through different growth stages, the surrounding environment changes, allowing players to enter and explore various worlds.
The game's visual design is influenced by the works of Tim Burton and Junji Ito, using cute nurturing mechanics to contrast with an eerie world atmosphere. The work does not merely aim to make the creature bigger; it also seeks to present the contradiction between the responsibility of caring for life and endless consumption.
"Bloom Time" has an estimated playtime of about 45 minutes and supports Japanese text display. A demo is now available on the Steam store. The game is priced at 465 yen in Japan, with a 20% launch discount available until November 13; prices in other regions may vary.
