Kawade Shobo Shinsha announced that the novel "As Summer Fades," written by Kazuhide Oka himself, will be released on December 15, 2026, priced at 1,782 yen (including tax). The book is adapted from the adventure game of the same name developed by Oka and marks his debut as a novelist.
This adaptation is not a reinterpretation by an external author, but rather a conversion of the game's story into written narrative by the original developer. The protagonist, Shiori, connects with girls in a post-apocalyptic world through a computer left by her grandmother and attempts to save them.
These girls are afflicted by a mysterious disease yet continue to travel in the post-apocalyptic world. The true nature of the "nanomachines" and the method to neutralize them will form key mysteries in the story.
The publisher also plans to release the visual novel "As Summer Fades -Prologue-" for free on Steam on the day of the novel's launch, featuring the opening content of the book. This title presents the novel's prologue and allows players unfamiliar with the original work to get acquainted with the main characters, the post-apocalyptic world, and the core suspense.
