New data released by Alinea Analytics shows that several Sony games have still generated significant revenue from physical sales in recent years. The physical sales revenue share for both Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Ghost of Yōtei exceeded 30%.
The data shows that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has generated approximately $1.2 billion in total revenue, with nearly 35% coming from disc sales. Based on this proportion, physical copies remain a significant component of the game's revenue.
Ghost of Yōtei has generated approximately $400 million in total revenue, with disc sales contributing nearly 40%, resulting in a higher physical sales revenue share than Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Sony titles such as Astro Bot, Stellar Blade, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beaches also show similar trends, although current information does not list the specific physical sales revenue proportions for each of these games.
While digital versions have become the primary way many players purchase games and physical media is generally in decline, the above data indicates that demand for physical copies still exists in different regions. The sales performance of titles like Assassin's Creed Shadows and Resident Evil Requiem are also cited to illustrate this phenomenon.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Sony plans to discontinue its disc business starting in 2028. Current revenue data contrasts with this plan: at least for several titles released in recent years, physical copies have still contributed a non-negligible share of revenue.
