Hamster has announced that Namco's classic polygonal shooter, Xevious 3D/G, will join Arcade Archives 2 on September 24. This marks the first time the original arcade version of the game will be available on home consoles.
In recent years, Hamster has been bringing Namco's System 22 and the more powerful Super System 22 arcade titles to modern hardware. This June, Tekken was released as part of Arcade Archives 2, expanding the collection to include games from the System 11 platform; Xevious 3D/G also runs on System 11.
Originally released in 1996, Xevious 3D/G is the eighth entry in the Xevious vertical-scrolling shooter series and the first in the franchise to transition from sprite-based graphics to polygonal visuals. Players pilot the Solvalou fighter to intercept incoming enemies and halt the Xevious forces' conquest of humanity.
Due to the similarities between the System 11 arcade board and the original PlayStation hardware, a PS1 port was released in 1997. However, since that release was not the original arcade version, this launch represents the first time the authentic arcade experience is coming to home platforms.
The game is currently planned for release exclusively through Arcade Archives 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2, and will not be available on PS4 or the original Switch.
In addition to the original mode, high-score mode, and the Caravan mode where players compete for the highest score within a time limit, the Arcade Archives 2 version includes a Time Attack mode focused on clearing the game as quickly as possible. It also supports VRR to more accurately replicate the original arcade experience. Xevious 3D/G will be the 11th Namco polygonal arcade title released through the series.
