Recently, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that some side quests in the game will change depending on the protagonist chosen by the player, meaning a single playthrough won't allow you to experience all the content. This title is the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, and Hamaguchi introduced these design details during IGN Japan's special Tokyo Game Show livestream.
Players can decide which character undertakes side quests. Different choices will not only alter the narrative perspective of the quest but may also affect the story experience, gameplay process, and even the final ending. The development team aims to evoke different feelings when facing the final battle based on the character players put in the spotlight, thereby changing the player's own experience.
Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the amount of content playable in a single run is expected to be roughly equivalent to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. However, there is still a significant amount of content that cannot be seen in one playthrough; if all these branching paths are taken into account, the overall scale may surpass that of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
The beginning of the game will still adopt a relatively linear structure. The first five to six hours of the main story will focus on immersive progression, after which the world will open up all at once. Compared to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which featured primarily horizontally expansive areas, this installment will further emphasize vertical space.
Areas previously explored in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will return, with layouts adjusted and quests and other content expanded to reflect the changes in this installment's world. Midgar is included as well; the explorable area is no longer limited to the city itself, as its surrounding regions will connect directly to the grasslands.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on April 8, 2027, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. It has been confirmed that the game will run at 4K/60fps on PS5 Pro.
