Recently, the PS5 emulator branch KyTyPlus achieved new progress, successfully running the Unreal Engine 5-based "Silent Hill 2 Remake" using AMD Radeon 840 integrated graphics. However, it is still far from smooth gameplay, with the game content warning screen running at only 4 frames per second.
KyTyPlus is a high-level emulator developed based on the KyTyPS5 codebase. The integrated graphics used this time have 512MB of VRAM and also utilize shared system memory; no glitches or crashes occurred during operation, and it supports AMD FSR upscaling technology.
This result also highlights the differences between KyTyPlus and the original KyTyPS5. Currently, even with more powerful hardware, KyTyPS5 still crashes when launching the "Silent Hill 2" remake, while the branch version is already able to display the game visuals.
KyTyPlus adopts a high-level emulation approach and does not require PS5 system firmware. This not only creates a distinction in technical direction but also reduces a legal risk factor that could potentially lead Sony to request the project's shutdown in the future.
PS5 emulation has made rapid progress recently. Within a few weeks, KyTyPS5 went from being barely able to launch games to running the "Demon's Souls" remake at 30 frames per second, and demonstrating good performance in titles like "Grand Theft Auto V." This time, KyTyPlus running "Silent Hill 2 Remake" on Radeon 840 integrated graphics further demonstrates the possibility of running such games on weaker hardware.
