Publisher DreadXP and developer Vincent Adinolfi have announced that the retro-style survival horror game Heartworm will launch on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on October 1, 2026. The game is currently available on PC.
The PC version of Heartworm was released on Steam on July 31, 2025. With the console release date now confirmed, the game will be available across two generations of consoles from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, and a new console trailer has also been revealed.
The protagonist, Sam, is unable to move past the grief of her grandfather's death. She constantly searches online for ways to reunite with him and, following clues from a mysterious forum, travels to a house in the mountains rumored to have supernatural phenomena, hoping to make contact with the other world there.
Gameplay focuses on exploration and traditional puzzles, with limited combat. Players must use their camera as a weapon for self-defense while investigating mysteries surrounding death. The game blends fixed camera angles with third-person over-the-shoulder perspectives, featuring modern controls and over-the-shoulder aiming, as well as optional classic tank-style controls.
A single playthrough of Heartworm lasts approximately 4 to 6 hours and features multiple endings. The game includes both pre-rendered and real-time cutscenes, with optional pixelation and retro visual effects to recreate the aesthetic of early 3D console games.
The title emphasizes psychological storytelling, centering on themes of grief and loss, and pays homage to late-1990s survival horror classics such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Console players will be able to experience the game on the six platforms mentioned above starting October 1.
