Production prospects for the second season of "Eyes of Wakanda" have been hindered by the financial difficulties faced by animation studio Axis Studios, but Marvel Studios has not officially announced the cancellation of the series. In recent years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded its TV and animated content via Disney+, with series like "WandaVision," "Ms. Marvel," "Moon Knight," and "Ironheart" introducing more characters and storylines to the franchise.
Among the works released by Marvel Studios Animation, "What If...?", "Marvel Zombies," "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man," and "X-Men '97" are all set outside the main universe, Earth-616. "Eyes of Wakanda," however, belongs to Earth-616 and the "Sacred Timeline," recounting the experiences of Wakandan War Dogs carrying out secret missions and recovering vibranium artifacts across different eras.
Axis Studios, the Scottish company responsible for the show's animation and visual style, entered administration in July 2024. The company had already been unable to pay employee salaries the month prior. At that time, the first season of "Eyes of Wakanda," consisting of four episodes, had already been completed and was released on Disney+ in August 2025.
Cash flow issues at Axis Studios appear to have hindered the production of subsequent episodes. However, Marvel could still choose another production company to take over, and the series itself leaves room for further expansion. Creator Todd Harris previously stated that the team had more stories in reserve. The series adopts an anthology format, allowing it to continue exploring different historical periods of Wakanda and connecting some stories to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Currently, "Eyes of Wakanda" is the only Marvel Studios Animation flagship series with just one season, while "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" and "Marvel Zombies" both have their second seasons in progress. Due to the original production company's troubles and Marvel's ongoing adjustment of its TV strategy, whether "Eyes of Wakanda" will continue remains uncertain.
Wakanda-related film and television projects have not stopped as a result. "Black Panther 3" is scheduled for release in December 2028, with David Jonsson and Denzel Washington joining the cast. Until Marvel announces further arrangements, "Eyes of Wakanda" remains a single-season, four-episode series, with its first season now airing on Disney+.
