Spike Chunsoft and Gemdrops have announced a new character for Danganronpa 2x2, Sakutaro Azuma. He will appear in Slayhem mode, a mode based on Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair that tells a completely new story with a different direction.
Sakutaro Azuma is one of the high school students involved in the "Class Trial" of Slayhem mode. The development team has not yet revealed his "Ultimate" talent; players need to discover this ability during gameplay.
The character's Japanese voice is provided by Natsuki Hanae, and the English voice by Griffin Burns. Both stated that this is their first time participating in the Danganronpa series. Hanae mentioned that gradually learning about the cases, tricks, and other plot details during the recording process made him particularly enjoy this voice acting role.
Danganronpa 2x2 offers two modes: Original and Slayhem. Original retells the story of Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, which was first released in 2012, with updated visuals and presentation. Slayhem uses the familiar story foundation but changes the course of events, adding new scenarios and characters.
Both modes are available from the start of the game. Danganronpa 2x2 is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, and PC on January 14, 2027. The PC version will be released via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
