Square Enix released the Steam version of Final Fantasy: Resonance on October 23. According to the unofficial database SteamDB, the game reached a peak concurrent player count of 20,000. At the time of reporting, 94% of approximately 250 Steam user reviews were positive, resulting in an overall rating of "Very Positive."
The Steam Standard Edition is priced at 7,678 yen, while the Digital Deluxe Edition is priced at 9,878 yen. A demo version is also available, with save data that can be carried over to the full release.
Final Fantasy: Resonance is built on the concept of "what if Final Fantasy had continued to evolve with pixel graphics," and is introduced as the series' first HD-2D title. The story is a reimagining based on the first season of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, revolving around a brutal war, a girl capable of commanding powerful espers, an armored man destroying crystals across the land, and themes of revenge and bonds spanning hundreds of years.
Series protagonists such as Cloud, Terra, and Clive also make appearances. Players can equip "Vision Crystals," formed from the crystallized memories of these characters, to learn abilities during battle. In addition to the HD-2D visuals, the opening sequence and key events utilize a "Cinematic Pixel" style that pixelates 3D CG, while certain special moves and summon animations are rendered in full 3D graphics. Current user reviews primarily praise the game's visuals, soundtrack, and its traditional, classic JRPG style.
