"Fallout: New World" Gameplay Trailer Faces Skepticism; Developers State About 20% of Content Was AI-Assisted

Frontline Games Series has released a demo trailer for their isometric wasteland RPG, Fallout: New World. However, the demonstration has faced criticism for issues such as wall-clipping, audio-visual desynchronization, and missing feedback. The developers have also confirmed that approximately 20% of the game's content utilizes AI-assisted tools.

《辐射新世界》试玩预告遭质疑,开发者称约两成内容由AI辅助

The developers describe this title as a love letter to Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics. According to its Steam page, the game features open-world exploration, random encounters, melee and various firearm combat, tactical positioning, stealth, character progression, and status effects like radiation and addiction. Player dialogue choices will also impact quests and factions.

The game also plans to include lockpicking, trading, crafting, and vehicle inventory systems, along with gambling mechanics such as poker, dice, slot machines, and arena betting. The developers stated that AI tools are primarily used to upscale and refine map backgrounds and environments based on the studio's own 3D assets. Some voice lines in the demo are also AI-generated but will be replaced by professional voice actors upon full release.

In the currently released trailer, the animation appears sluggish and stiff, with characters clipping through walls. There are also synchronization issues between visuals and audio, and feedback for muzzle flashes, bullet impacts, and shell casings is incomplete. Players are divided on whether the related assets were merely upscaled and refined using AI or show more obvious signs of generative creation. The game is planned for an Early Access release.
