Japan Falcom has announced that the demo for "Kyoto Phantom City" is now available in Japan and Asia on PS5, Switch 2, Switch, and Steam. Players can play from the prologue through the end of Chapter 1, with save data carrying over to the full release.
The demo offers the complete opening sequence, allowing those who haven't purchased the game yet to experience the early story, combat mechanics, and daily gameplay. Set in a modern world where Kyoto has become Japan's capital, the protagonist, Rei Kamiya, who possesses powers to fight otherworldly monsters, transfers to Hirasaka Academy and joins forces with friends to conquer spaces known as "Otherworlds."
The game features two distinct combat styles. The 2D sections combine melee, shooting, and attribute-based puzzles, while the 3D sections introduce "Soul Acceleration" to significantly boost character abilities. Players can also trigger powerful counterattacks through precise blocking.
During school and daily life segments, players can use deck-building lessons to raise stats, build relationships with classmates, and explore Kyoto for food, entertainment spots, and special events. The full version of "Kyoto Phantom City" was released in Japan and Asia on July 16, with a Western release still in planning.
