American fast-food chain Wendy's is launching the 2D pixel-art turn-based RPG "Wendy's Quest: The Legend of the Quad Stone," with its Steam store page now live. The game is marked as "Coming Soon," and no specific release date has been announced.
The game is developed by 81monkeys, an independent studio based in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada. Players will team up with Wendy and three other adventurers to battle evil mechanical monsters in a culinary kingdom in crisis, with squad members including Sir Chicken.
Trailers and screenshots showcase various designs themed around the brand's menu items, including "Frydusa," a snake-like monster made of fries, and rivers of sauce pouring out of containers. Menu items like the Dave's Single and Junior Bacon Cheeseburger can restore HP during battles, and character dialogue includes self-referential jokes about the Baconator and the classic "Where's the beef?" slogan.
Current online reactions are generally positive, with some players noting that the game's visuals and polish exceed typical expectations for advergames, while others have compared it to Burger King's 2006 promotional title "Sneak King." Wendy's previously released the free tabletop RPG "Fable & Feast" in 2019, but this time has opted to create a full-fledged Steam game.
