Recently, data published by blogger RD Observation shows that sales of the iPhone Duo during its initial launch period (fast sales day plus the following three days) approached 200,000 units, outperforming all other wide-fold models in market performance.
During the pre-sale phase, due to high demand and limited supply, extreme premiums of tens of thousands of yuan were reported in scalper channels. However, after the official launch on October 23, prices quickly dropped, with some third-party e-commerce platforms even selling below the official price, at 200 yuan less than the listed price.
From the crazy price premiums during pre-sales to the price drop after launch, the market enthusiasm for the iPhone Duo has undergone a rapid correction. Although orders on Apple's official website are still scheduled until January next year, Apple customer service expects delivery times to be earlier, and many people have canceled their orders due to long waiting times.
On the other hand, many third-party apps for video, audio, finance, and gaming still display in a centered phone aspect ratio when opened, leaving large black bars on both sides and failing to utilize the inner screen space. The lag in software adaptation has directly impacted the actual user experience of the large foldable screen.
Inner screen failures have also shaken the purchasing confidence of some consumers. Multiple users reported black vertical cracks or bright lines appearing in the folding area of the inner screen after normal unfolding. Apple has confirmed that a small number of devices have inner screen issues, and affected users can apply for a replacement through AppleCare.
Despite ongoing controversies surrounding the initial launch, industry institutions remain steadfast in their expectations for Apple's foldable screen market share. TrendForce predicts that the iPhone Duo will ship approximately 5 million units in its first year, capturing about 24.8% of the global foldable screen market.
Against the backdrop of near-zero growth in the global foldable screen market, Apple's entry will accelerate industry reshuffling, leading to a restructuring of market share among top brands.
