Zombie Strategy Game 'We Are The Horde' Demo Released, Full Version to Feature Five Cities

Independent studio BixelTechCode has launched a demo for the zombie-faction strategy game We Are The Horde on Steam. Players start as a slow-moving basic zombie, gathering biomass, expanding their ranks, and strengthening the horde. The full version is planned to feature five cities.

In the game's setting, humans have been dumping all sorts of things into the sewers for decades, eventually giving rise to zombies that crawl out from under manhole covers. The horde consists of seven types of zombies, each with different roles ranging from Shamblers to Alphas. Players can use biomass to purchase new members and upgrades.

Each city is divided into nine districts, with locations like Citizen Park and the Police Headquarters offering different content and rewards. Controlling a district doesn't guarantee permanent safety; soldiers from neighboring cities may launch invasions to reclaim areas or destroy nests. Some upgrades can be carried over when moving to the next city.

After catching up to survivors, players can either devour them to instantly gain biomass or infect them, absorbing them as new zombies. However, infections are treated as missing persons cases and raise suspicion levels, forcing players to choose between acquiring resources and expanding their ranks.

As the horde grows, the city's alert level will also increase, with eradication squads appearing in the later stages. Expanding too quickly may trigger special operations. The full release of We Are The Horde is scheduled for Q4 2026, with plans to support Japanese language display.
