Blizzard will introduce native controller support in World of Warcraft: Infinite, marking the first step toward multi-device gameplay for World of Warcraft. This new version, scheduled for release on November 4, builds upon the original 2004 setting and gameplay while adding new stories and content.
World of Warcraft has long relied on keyboard and mouse controls, making native controller support a highly anticipated change in World of Warcraft: Infinite. Holly Longdale, Executive Producer and Vice President at Blizzard, stated that the team aims to enable players to eventually play anywhere on various devices. The immediate priority is to ensure a smooth controller experience in World of Warcraft, with World of Warcraft: Infinite serving as the ideal starting point.
Longdale also mentioned Project Helix and the potential convergence of different platforms, noting that some players have already managed to run the game on the ROG Ally X. The flexibility offered by controller adaptation extends beyond traditional consoles to include other device forms.
Project Helix is widely expected to be a hybrid Xbox console and PC device, though details about its form factor remain speculative. Blizzard has not confirmed a console version of World of Warcraft; Longdale's comments addressed long-term direction and technical preparations rather than announcing an official Xbox version.
