PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is being adapted into a live-action PUBG series. Donald Glover will serve as writer, director, and executive producer, while also starring in the show.
Donald Glover's brother and long-time collaborator, Stephen Glover, has also joined the project as a writer and executive producer. Currently, the character Donald Glover will portray, the story synopsis, and the rest of the cast have not been revealed, nor have the filming start date or release window been announced.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds centers on battle royale matches, with narrative not being the game's most prominent feature. As a result, the adaptation team may have more creative freedom compared to adapting works with clear main storylines. However, this is merely an assessment of the project's potential and does not represent any officially announced creative direction for PUBG.
Donald Glover has prior experience in writing, acting, and directing. His Amazon Prime series Mr. & Mrs. Smith premiered in 2024, with its first season receiving 16 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Glover himself. At this stage, it has not been disclosed how the project will translate PUBG's gameplay mechanics into a serialized narrative.
