Recently, Diablo V was officially announced at BlizzCon 2026, followed by the release of the game's first batch of concept art and information on three launch classes. The game is scheduled for release in spring 2029 and is currently in early development.
The story of Diablo V is set one hundred years after Diablo IV, breaking with the series' traditional narrative: Diablo has achieved ultimate victory, Sanctuary has completely fallen, and instead of players preventing the apocalypse, it has already arrived. The released concept art depicts a devastated world, with collapsed Gothic cathedrals and burned city ruins scattered across the land. The art style shifts back, abandoning the relatively warm tones of Diablo IV in favor of the dark, gritty, and oppressive visual atmosphere of Diablo II, emphasizing a medieval post-apocalyptic wasteland feel.
The first three playable classes were officially announced. Demon Hunter: Utilizing dual crossbows, this class excels in shadow stealth and high-speed mobility, weaving through the battlefield to hunt down demonic creatures, continuing its role as a fast-paced guerrilla fighter. Monk: Centered around martial arts and hand-to-hand combat, this class crushes demons in close quarters while channeling divine power for large-scale punitive strikes. Plague Knight: A heavily armored warrior and "walking embodiment of death." This class can spread plagues across a wide area on the battlefield, then consume plague energy to enhance their own combat power, featuring a unique toxin resource cycle system.
The developers emphasized that the total number of launch classes in this title will exceed any previous entry in the series. Classic characters such as the Barbarian and Sorceress have not yet been revealed; more classes will be announced in batches later. Details regarding skill trees, build construction, and the equipment system have not yet been disclosed.
In terms of world-building mechanics, this title eliminates traditional safe towns. As the heir to the Western Kingdoms, players will travel through the shattered Sanctuary alongside an ever-growing caravan of survivors. Most side quests will come from NPC members of the caravan, and the Treasure Goblin will also appear as a special character within the caravan. The game retains procedurally generated dungeons, while classic equipment mechanics such as sets and belts make a return.
Blizzard also revealed the current status of the Diablo IP: over the past thirty years, the entire Diablo series has accumulated 130 million players. Diablo IV will continue to be supported, with the Amazon class bundle launching in 2027 and the game coming to Switch 2. The Netflix animated adaptation is still in development, with no release date announced yet.
